Immigrant families threaten legal action on new instructions limiting daycare access

Montreal – Two families are threatening legal action on the Kubek government’s move to deprive some immigrants from access to subsidized decar spots.

Two sets of parents of France and Ukraine, there is a risk of losing their children’s spots in a subsidized home decare, priced at $ 9.35 per day.

The Quebec government has recently sent a new directive stating that foreign workers with open work permits are not eligible for subsidized decar.

The government says it is implementing an existing rule, but parents of parents say that the province is making a ban that is invalid and illegal.

Unions representing the decare workers say that hundreds of children may lose their decar spots due to new instructions.

The government says that there is a high demand for a decare spot in Quebec, and calls the ban “case of fairness”.
