IIT Madras graduate Pavan Davuluri to head Microsoft Windows

IIT Madras alumnus Pavan Davuluri has been appointed as Microsoft’s new head of Windows and Surface, making him the latest Indian to hold a leadership role at a major tech company, Just like Google’s Sundar Pichai and Microsoft’s Satya Nadella.

Mr. Davuluri succeeds long-time product chief Panos Panay, who left the unit last year to join Amazon. Earlier, Mr. Davuluri was in charge of the Surface division, while Mikhail Parakhin was in charge of the Windows division. After Parakhin and Panay resigned, he took over the Windows and Surface divisions.

The Verge accessed an internal memo from Microsoft’s experience and devices chief Rajesh Jha outlining the organization’s new hierarchy. He said the decision will help the organization take a “holistic approach” to building devices and experiences for the “artificial intelligence era.”

“As part of this change, we are bringing together the Windows Experience and Windows + Devices teams as a core part of the Experience + Devices (E+D) group. This will allow us to take a holistic approach to building silicon, systems, and This era of AI, experiences and devices across Windows clients and the cloud. Pavan Davuluri will lead this team and continue to report to me. Shilpa Ranganathan and Jeff Johnson and their teams will report directly to Pavan. The Windows team will continue to work closely with Microsoft The AI ​​team collaborates on AI, chips and experiences,” he said.

Mr. Davuluri has worked at Microsoft for more than 23 years and has been involved in collaborations with Qualcomm and AMD to develop processors for Surface.

“We are excited to have this team help Microsoft AI realize its bold ambition to build world-class consumer AI products. I very much look forward to working closely with Mustafa and the team to bring AI products, including Copilot, to the market. Our E+D breadth of products and services,” the memo said.

A few days ago, Mustafa Suleyman, co-founder of Google DeepMind and former CEO of Inflection AI, joined Microsoft as CEO of the new artificial intelligence team.
