Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has supported young opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal, who ‘ran away’ with the ‘Player of the Series’ award in the ongoing five-match bilateral Test against England. Despite scoring double centuries in the second and third Tests, he has not received the Player of the Match award in the series so far. However, with a few double centuries, Chopra predicts Jaiswal to take the big prize at the end of the series. India lead the series 2-1 with the last two Tests taking place in Ranchi and Dharamshala respectively.

“Yashasvi may not have won a single POTM yet, but he will take home the Player of the Series award in Dharamshala,” Chopra wrote on

In the second innings of the third Test, Jaiswal played an unbeaten inning of 214 runs with the help of 14 fours and 12 sixes.

The 22-year-old made an unbeaten partnership of 172 runs with Sarfaraz Khan, who played an unbeaten inning of 68* with the help of six fours and three sixes.

During his innings, Jaiswal equaled Wasim Akram’s record (12) for most sixes in an innings in Test cricket. Akram had also hit 12 sixes against Zimbabwe in 1996.

However, it was Ravindra Jadeja who won the Player of the Match award in Rajkot, scoring a century in the first innings and taking five wickets in the second innings.

In the second Test in Vizag, Jaiswal was outclassed by Jaiswal despite scoring a brilliant 209 off 290 balls during India’s first innings.

Meanwhile, England’s Ollie Pope had taken the honors with his match-winning innings of 196 in the series opener in Hyderabad.

The fourth Test will begin on Friday, February 23 in Ranchi, while the fifth and final Test will be played at the picturesque HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala from March 7-11.
