US President Donald Trump on Wednesday reiterated his claim of peace between India and Pakistan during Operation Sindoor and said he stopped “the war between two nuclear nations”.
He appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi, called him a “magnificent man”.
“Well, I stopped the war between Pakistan. I love Pakistan. I think PM Modi is a great man; I talked to him last night. We will have a business deal with PM Modi of India. I stopped the war between Pakistan and India,” said Trump.
He was speaking at a Flagpol Installation event at the South Lawn of the White House. The US President asked about his upcoming meeting with the chief General Asim Munir of the Pakistani Army.
“This man (Asim Munir) was very impressive in stopping the war from the Pakistani side. PM Modi from the Indian side and others. And they are going on it.
Prime Minister Modi and President Trump were scheduled to meet on the occasion of the G7 summit in Canada. However, President Trump had to return to America early, due to which the meeting could not be held.
Subsequently, at the request of President Trump, the two leaders spoke on a phone call and the conversation lasted for about 35 minutes, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said in a statement on Wednesday.
Misri said that President Trump had expressed condolences to Prime Minister Modi on a phone call after a terrorist attack in Pahgam on 22 April. And he also expressed his support against terrorism. Prime Minister Modi spoke in detail about Operation Sindore with President Trump.
He clearly told President Trump that after 22 April, India had expressed its determination to take action against terrorism all over the world.
The Prime Minister said that on the night of 6-7 May, India had targeted terrorist camps and bases in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied only. India’s functions were very measured, accurate and non-esklery. India had also made it clear that any work of aggression from Pakistan would be found with a strong response.
On the night of 9–10 May, India reacted a strong and decisive reaction to Pakistan’s attack, causing significant damage to the Pakistani army. His military airbase was deactivated. Due to India’s strong action, Pakistan was forced to request the termination of military operations.
Misri said that PM Modi clearly informed President Trump that there was no discussion on any proposal for arbitration for the US-US trade deal at any level, at any level, at any level, at any level of incidents, or the US and Pakistan during this entire sequence of events.
The discussion of stopping military action was directly through India and Pakistan through existing communication channels of communication between two armed forces, and it was started at Pakistan’s request.
PM Modi strongly stated that India does not accept arbitration and will never accept it. India has full political consent on this matter.
According to Mea, President Trump listened carefully to the points mentioned by the Prime Minister and expressed his support for India’s fight against terrorism, Missary said. Prime Minister Modi also said that India no longer sees terrorism as a proxy war, but only as a war, and India’s operation vermilion is still going on.
Trump has made similar claims earlier, even talking about trade, and India has repeatedly said that the end of enmity with Pakistan did not come due to any mediation and this happened after calling Pakistan DGMO to its Indian counterpart.
Mea spokesperson Randhi Jayswal said in media briefing, “The specific date, time and words of understanding were started between DGMOS of the two countries on 10 May 2025 on their phone calls at 1535 pm.”
He said, “Regarding dialogue with other countries, India’s message was clear and consistent. And exactly the same message that we were expressing with public platforms was expressed in private conversations,” he said. (AI)
