West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was injured when her car stopped suddenly to avoid collision with a vehicle. The Chief Minister said that he could have died in the accident and the law will take its course.

Narrating how the accident happened, Banerjee said that a car came from the front and almost hit her vehicle.

“We held a meeting as per the Supreme Court order on education. I got it. A car came in front of me, the car almost crushed me. I could die. The driver had to apply brakes. I have a headache, I also had bleeding. I have worked in this situation. The window was open so I could escape. The law will take its course,” she said.

“The police will do their work. I will not go to the hospital. I’m cold, I’m going home.

Addressing the media after meeting Governor CV Anand Bose at the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata, he said he was “safe” because of the blessings of the people.

The accident happened when she was returning from Burdwan to Kolkata.

“West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee suffered an injury on her forehead while returning from Burdwan to Kolkata by road when her car suddenly applied brakes as another car suddenly appeared in front of the CM’s convoy. She did not return by helicopter due to bad weather,” ANI quoted sources as saying.

Congress general secretary communication in-charge Jairam Ramesh said his party wishes full and speedy recovery to the TMC chief.

“We have just heard about Mamata Banerjee ji’s injury in a car accident. We wish him full and speedy recovery. Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra is set to enter West Bengal late tomorrow morning. 26th and 27th January are break days, the journey will resume on 28th,” he tweeted.

Earlier in the day, Banerjee announced that her party has decided to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections alone in the state. “I had given them (Congress) a proposal (on seat-sharing), but they rejected it in the beginning. Our party has now decided to contest the elections alone in Bengal,” Banerjee said amid a tussle over seat talks between the Congress and TMC.

The CM also denied media reports of seat-sharing talks and said he had not talked to anyone in the Congress on the issue.
