'I am in pain': Kangana Ranaut on Congress leader's derogatory remarks

Actor Kangana Ranaut on Tuesday said every woman, irrespective of her background and profession, should be treated with dignity, adding that she was particularly pained by the Congress leader’s comments about Mandi as she was speaking out about India Participated in the Lok Sabha elections on behalf of the People’s Party.

Ms Ranaut told reporters outside the Chandigarh airport that the mandi is popularly known as ‘chota Kashi’ across the world.

Congress leaders Supriya Shrinate and HS Ahir posted derogatory comments about Ms Ranaut and Mandi on their social media accounts, triggering a huge political row.

“No matter what profession women are in, whether they are teachers, actors, journalists, politicians or sex workers, they should be treated with dignity. I am especially pained by the deplorable comments made about Mandy… We Everyone from Mandi is hurt by these comments,” Ms Ranaut said.

Asked if she planned any action against the two Congress leaders, she said that BJP president JP Nadda had called her to Delhi and would respond only after meeting him.

“I must uphold the dignity of the party. I cannot walk in front of it. I must walk with them and follow their instructions.”

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has written to the Election Commission seeking strict action against Ms Shrinate and Mr Ahir for their remarks against Ms Ranaut.

“The National Commission for Women is appalled by the disgraceful behavior of Ms. Supriya Shrinate and Mr. HS Ahir who made obscene and derogatory remarks against @KanganaTeam on social media. Such behavior is intolerable and violates the dignity of women. @sharmarekha A letter has been sent to the Election Commissioner of India demanding immediate strict action against them. Let us uphold respect and dignity for all women. #RespectWomen,” the National Commission for Women said in a post on Monday.

Kangana Ranaut, 37, had earlier slammed Ms Shrinate, saying she had played various roles and every woman should be treated with dignity.

“Dear Supriya ji, In the last 20 years of my career as an artist, I have played a variety of women. From an innocent girl in ‘Queen’ to a seductive spy in ‘Dhaakad’, from ‘Manikarnika’ to the demon in ‘Chandramukhi’, from the prostitute in ‘Rajjo’ to the revolutionary leader in ‘Thalaivii’,” Ms. Ranaut tweeted.

Ms. Shrinate clarified that her Facebook and Instagram accounts were accessible to a number of people who posted inappropriate posts.

“I deleted the post as soon as I found out. Everyone who knows me knows that I would never make personal and indecent comments about any woman. I want to know how this happened,” she said.

Kisan Congress state joint coordinator Mr. Ahir also made derogatory remarks against Ms. Ranaut.
