Talk about being lucky on a date.
A married couple of Cash Bay, Ontario checked $ 34 million after their decades-late date, to take away a lotto ticket after dinner.
Joe and Lise Manard’s wedding has been 36 years, and every Friday night they bite to eat, then pick up a lotto ticket and drive home ‘Just imagining’ what they will do if they would win.
After one night of his recent, he stopped a quick pit at a gas station to check his previous tickets, and caught some new ones on 21 June 2025 for Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball Draw.
“We always buy our lottery tickets as part of our date of our date on Friday,” Lis said. “We had to stay at a gas station, and my purse had some old tickets, so I asked Joe to check them after pumping the gas.”
“When I went to pay for gas, I asked the clerk to check the ticket,” Joe said. “After seeing that he was not the winner, the clerk asked if I want to play him again. I usually get new tickets using a quick pick, but this time I started the old again.”
A few days later, Joe, a retired mechanic, heard that the Jackpot winning ticket was sold in North Ontario and said he had a “premiere” he won.
“It was not till that evening that Lis checked tickets on his phone with the OLG app,” he explained.
When she did, she almost finished.
“I almost suffered a heart attack. I was saying ‘Joe! Joe!’ First of all, he thought that we had won $ 34,000 and I kept asking him to see all the void! “
Once the reality climbed on them, they quickly informed their children, who assumed that it was a mischief.
“He felt that we were playing a joke on him,” Lis said. “But when I sent him a screenshot of a $ 34 million message from the OLG app, they shouted. They were very excited to us.”
The couple who is inseparable because Joe took Lis to the high school prom, and has worked hard for years to provide them.
It will now be very easy.
“The big thing for us was that we take care of children, the best way,” Lis said.
“Now my children will be taken care of – no more worry. When someone wants something, we will stay there to help.”
The couple also planned to travel to Canada, and who says they will fulfill a promise that they did for their date night drive at home.
“I always wanted to give him a dream home, and now he is going to get it.”
