A husband who cut his wife’s body into more than 200 pieces and then paid a friend £50 to help him throw her body into a river has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 19 years.

Hancock was arrested on April 5 and charged with obstructing a coroner’s inquest.

In the days after his wife was murdered, Matson used her Facebook account to send messages to her friends and trick them into thinking she was still alive.

He tried to make them believe she had left him and moved to Manchester while sending himself money from her bank account.

An extensive CCTV search showed that in the early hours of March 25, Matson moved a large amount of luggage from his 14th-floor apartment into a lift and then into his yellow Peugeot car.

Matson initially denied killing his wife but changed his plea on February 23, while Hancock admitted at the same hearing to handling a body with intent to obstruct or prevent the coroner’s inquest, facing Ms Bramley’s devastated family were in court on Friday.

Ms Bramley’s mother Annette called him an “evil monster” who led his wife to believe there was abuse in her family and her family suffered “unimaginable suffering”.

Describing her daughter as “beautiful, kind and loving”, she said: “Her last, pain-filled moments will haunt us forever.

“Her life was taken by someone who clearly had no respect for human life.

“We were unable to see Holly in the years before she was murdered. We were unable to see her before her death and due to his horrific actions he ensured that we were unable to see her after her death.

“Holly will always live in our hearts and we will never forget her and the impact she made on our lives.”
