Home Minister Amit Shah blames ‘Jungle Raj’ for Bihar’s industrial decline, vows to revive sugar mills

Patna, Nov 3 (IANS) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday launched a scathing attack on Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and his wife Rabri Devi and held their 15-year rule responsible for the anarchy that led to the closure of industries and sugar mills in Bihar.

Speaking at a rally in Sitamarhi’s Riga block, Union minister Shah said the state’s industrial failures – including the closure of sugar mills, the stalling of the Barauni refinery complex and delays in power projects – were a direct result of extortion and terror under the previous government.

He credited Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for restoring law and order and opening the way for development in the state.

He said, “During the rule of Lalu and Rabri, there was a reign of terror and anarchy in Bihar. Our sugar mill was closed due to extortion… Nitish Kumar has ended the reign of terror and opened the doors of development.”

Reiterating the promise made earlier in Riga, Union Minister Shah said that the Riga Sugar Mill – which is now operational – would be only the beginning.

He pledged that the Cooperation Department of the Center will work to restart all the closed sugar mills in Bihar to promote prosperity of sugarcane farmers.

The Union Minister compared the present time with earlier times when a decline in voting was seen in Maoist-affected areas.

Union Minister Shah said, “This time the entire Bihar will vote till 5 pm, because Bihar has become free from Maoism.”

He called it an attack on dynastic ambitions, claiming that Lalu Prasad Yadav wants to make his son Tejashwi Yadav the chief minister of Bihar and Sonia Gandhi wants her son Rahul Gandhi to be the prime minister – and said no one will succeed as long as Nitish Kumar and PM Narendra Modi lead.

Union Minister Shah said, “Let me tell you today that neither Lalu’s son will become the Chief Minister nor Sonia’s son will become the Prime Minister of the country. Because there is Nitish Kumar in Bihar and Narendra Modi in the country.”

He said, “Narendra Modi has pledged for a developed India and Nitish Kumar has pledged for a developed Bihar. India cannot develop without a developed Bihar. If you want to make a developed Bihar, then ensure a landslide victory for the NDA.”

He also criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Save the Infiltrators’ campaign, warning that alleged infiltrators undermine jobs and rights and vowed to identify and remove every single infiltrator in Bihar and across the country.

Union Minister Shah said, “Rahul Gandhi recently came to Bihar for the ‘Save Infiltrators’ yatra. These infiltrators are snatching the food grains of our poor, snatching the jobs of our youth and those who have come here from Bangladesh do not have the right to elect the Chief Minister of Bihar. Rahul Gandhi, you can do ‘Save Infiltrator Rallies’ not only in Bihar but in the entire country, but we will identify each and every infiltrator and drive him out of the country. Will take it out.”

Appealing to the voters to give a strong mandate to the NDA, he said that a developed Bihar is necessary for a developed India.

After his rally in Sitamarhi, Union Home Minister Shah also addressed a huge gathering in Madhubani district.

He said that after the Ram temple in Ayodhya, now the construction of a grand temple dedicated to Goddess Sita has started in Punaura Dham of Sitamarhi, the estimated cost of which is Rs 850 crore.

He claimed that these two temples will become a symbol of development for Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

Referring to PM Modi’s Pahalgam resolution, he said, “In Madhubani, PM Modi had promised that revenge would be taken against those who killed our tourists in Pahalgam by asking them about their religion. Within just 20 days, PM Modi launched Operation Sindoor. Our army entered Pakistan, entered the houses of the terrorists and eliminated them.”

He urged people to vote to save Bihar from “Jungle Raj”, alleging that the 15-year tenure of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi was marked by kidnapping, dacoity, extortion, looting and murder, while the double engine government of PM Modi-Nitish Kumar has brought development.

He also accused Lalu Prasad Yadav of not respecting Mithila culture.

Union Minister Shah said PM Modi has done what earlier governments have not done: including Maithili language in the Eighth Schedule, starting the process of translating the Constitution into Maithili, ensuring GI tag for Madhubani paintings and honoring Sharda Sinha with Padma Vibhushan.
