Young run-getter Mayank Yadav has taken the Indian Premier League (IPL) by storm with his undeniable pace. In his IPL debut for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Mayank recorded the fastest bowling speed of IPL 2024 with a speed of 155.8 km/h against Kings XI Punjab. In the next match against RCB, he broke this record with a speed of 156.7 km/h. His performances have won over several experts and he could earn a place in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup.

Bu, Mayank missed LSG’s last two games due to workload issues.

Delhi Ranji Trophy team head coach Dewan Gandhi feels closely watched player Mayank has not fulfilled all the criteria to represent India.

Gandhi feels that an injury-prone player like Mayank needs to play more games to prove his fitness.

“He’s a special talent. Someone who does 155 kilometers an hour is definitely special. So obviously with the impact that’s taking on the body, there are definitely going to be injuries, but it’s not like they can’t be controlled. There has to be a lot more that he’s going to have to take part in Play and go through rigorous tests and then need to assess how he can withstand that,” Gandhi told Sports Now.

“But if he wants to play for India in the upcoming World Cup, he has to fulfill all the conditions. If he can play all 12 or 14 matches of the IPL, then he can be approached better. There are a lot of parameters that the selectors need to see , and if he can meet most of the requirements, he will be worthy of selection. However, the ball is in Mayank’s court and he has to prove himself.”

Gandhi also said that Mayank had a surprise factor in the first two IPL games but opponents might find ways to deal with him. In this scenario, the former India selector feels that the 21-year-old has to put in more effort in his bowling.

“The selectors also need to check his temperament and how he recovers after rest days. Consistency of fitness and temperament are other aspects that the selectors will consider. Initially, he had the element of surprise in his favour, but now the batsmen And think Tank will be trying to figure out how to face him, so how he overcomes that hurdle will be key, so Yadav has to tick two more boxes.”
