CNN The rescue was really amazing details:
The US Coast Guard was the first mission of Petty Officer Scott Ruskan as rescue swimmer.
The 26 -year -old Coast was new to the guard. He left the previous career as an accountant before listing, and graduated from the rescue swimming school about six months ago, when his team received a call from a local search-and-rescue team Task Force 1 in Texas on Friday morning.
He was immediately needed in Central Texas, where there was a torrential flood in the fourth weekend of July. Dozens of people were dead, and a lot were missing.
The team deployed Corpus Christie at around 7 am on Friday, where the Gwadalup river in Ker County, Texas increased from about 3 feet to about 30 feet. The area was washed away through flood waters and beaten several young camps on the banks of the river – in which Camp Mistic, Summer Camp where they were leading.
Ruskan said that about 200 campers should be rescued at the All-Girls Christian Camp. Flood waters with bridges and roadways are very high to protect the boat, the only option to airlif girls.
Camp Mystic’s counselors and staff were pushing something through the cabin windows to save the campers and put the children on the mattress to help them swim on the growing water. The area received more than a month of rain, and flood waters beat the site.
Hundreds of local, state and national first respondents had increased the Kerville region to help the remaining people find and save. The ongoing immediate response includes Black Hawk Helicopter deployed by Texas National Guard and Air National Guard.
Ruskan told CNN what should have been an hour -long flight in the landing zone near the camp. The crew said while battling “something beautiful, very bad weather”, he told CNN, something worst that he had experienced in his career.
He said that four attempts to the team and the help of the Air National Guard for the aircraft took their way through a brutal storm. From above, he could first see the destructive floods and its effects on the landscape. “I have never seen this sad anything in my life,” he said.
On the ground, Ruskan felt that he was the only first respondent and “met with about 200 children, mostly all scared, nervous, cold, perhaps the worst day of his life.”
But after reaching the camp mystic, Ruskan said, the crew needed in another, more dangerous place.
The aircraft could fit more people without him on the next site, and Ruskan could help where he was.
The crew decided to overtake him as a triage coordinator on the “hectic” site, the best option was to leave behind in the Camp Mistic. They were eventually capable of airlifting 15 children in second place without Ruskan on the aircraft.
At the camp, Ruskan collected distressed children in an area above the flood area, and heard the stories of the camp counselor, which ran to push the campers out of the door before the cabin flood. Some children cut their feet because they were barefoot. He did not have time to apply shoes before scramble for safety.
For about three hours, Ruskan said, he was the only rescueer on the site and there was no communication due to poor radio reception and no cell service. But he had any fear, he pushed one side to focus on his young allegations.
