“Here comes the new captain,” MS Dhoni’s response to the anchor’s query went viral.Watch | Cricket News

Rachin Ravindra has made an excellent addition to the Chennai Super Kings squad in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The New Zealand all-rounder was bought by the defending champions for Rs 1.8 crore before the start of the new season in the absence of Devon Conway. Ravindra, who was out of the game in the first session due to injury, was given the responsibility of batting from the off. The left-hander had two brilliant knocks in the first two games and the only blemish in his otherwise flawless performance was a catch error against the Gujarat Titans. At a recent event, he was asked about his missed chances and whether he looks at MS Dhoni to check his reaction after taking the ball.

“Did you watch MS when you missed the catch? How did he react, what did he tell you?” the anchor asked the New Zealand all-rounder.

Dhoni soon intervened and said that CSK now has a new captain.

“Well, there is a new captain,” MS Dhoni quipped.

“It (muscle memory) is there. But, I’m not a guy who reacts a lot, especially when someone is playing his first or second game. I think Ruturaj is the same. But It’s fun to watch him (Rachin) move around the ground,” Dhoni added.

Earlier, Sameer Rizvi praised MS Dhoni for his small but fast and impactful knock in his first IPL match and said the talismanic former India captain He is suggested to play his natural style of play against the Gujarat Giants.

Rizvi came up with a six-ball 14-run stand against GT on Tuesday night, including two sixes against Rashid Khan.

“Bhaiya (Dhoni) told me to play the way I normally play as it is all about the actual gameplay. He said, ‘There is no difference. The skills remain the same, it is just a matter of mentality. Never take any pressure or tension . . and play according to the situation’,” he said in a video on IPLT20.com.

Rizvi recalled the moment when he was bought by the franchise for a whopping Rs 84 crore in the pre-season auction as he felt that his dream of meeting Dhoni would finally come true.

“When I got picked by CSK during the auction, my biggest happiness was to see Bhaiya (MS Dhoni)’s dream come true. We also had networking sessions together and learned a lot from him and the (supporting) staff. I plan to learn more and make the most of my talents.”

Having played cricket for Uttar Pradesh, he has decent T20 figures, scoring 309 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 137.33, including two half-centuries.
