Headshot, then match blown: Real estate agent murdered at restaurant near Pune

A real estate dealer was murdered at a highway restaurant near Pune last night

Pune:

A gang of men shot a man in the head before hacking him to death at a highway restaurant near Pune last night in what is suspected to be the fallout from gang rivalry. The deceased has been identified as 34-year-old real estate dealer Avinash Balu Dhanve.

The incident took place at a restaurant on the Pune-Solapur highway, about 140 km from the city centre. Shocking footage captured by a CCTV camera at an Indapur restaurant shows Dhanvi sitting at one of the tables with three others.

A family of four, including two children, was seen eating at another table. Two men walked in, one carrying a plastic bag. They took out their guns and shot Danvi in the head while he was talking on the phone. They did not attack anyone else and the three men accompanying Danvi fled the scene.

Soon after, six more men ran into the restaurant and one of them attacked Danvi, who fell to the ground. As the family sitting at the next table ran toward the exit, three other men began hitting him with matches. As Danvi lay motionless, the attackers rushed out.

The police have formed five teams to investigate the murder. They said a preliminary investigation suggested a rivalry between two gangs led to the killing.
