Haryana professor slits 8-year-old daughter’s throat, then commits suicide

A professor and his daughter were found dead in their office at a college campus in Haryana this evening, hours after he told his wife they were going for a short motorcycle ride. He cut his eight-year-old daughter’s throat with a scalpel blade and then committed suicide. He used the same blade to slit his own throat.

The bodies of Sandeep Goyal and his daughter were found by his wife inside the office of Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LUVAS), Hisar of.

Co-workers suggested he suffered from depression, police said. “We will speak to the doctors concerned to know his exact health condition,” Hisar Assistant Superintendent of Police Rajesh Mohan said. A forensic team was also at the scene, he said.

Goyal, 35, left home with his daughter around 4 pm on the pretext of taking her for a ride on his motorcycle. When they didn’t return for several hours, his wife went to the university to look for them. She found his motorcycle parked outside the Veterinary Surgery and Radiology Department but found the door locked from the inside. She immediately alerted security personnel. To her horror, when the door opened, she found her husband and daughter lying in a pool of blood.
