harry brook Scratching your head as to why? England Continued to falter with the bat after another modest score which led to an ODI series defeat new zealand,

After being bowled out for 223 in the first ODI at Mount Maunganui, where they were saved from embarrassment by Brook’s brilliant 135, England were all out for 175 in 36 overs in Hamilton on Wednesday.

Fast bowling all-rounder Jamie Overton top-scored with 42 runs while counter-attacking from number eight, but Jamie Smith, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Jacob Bethel and Jos Buttler are yet to feature in the series.

New Zealand then achieved their target with five wickets in hand and 16.5 overs to spare and lead 2-0 with a match remaining in Wellington on Saturday as England suffered their ninth consecutive ODI defeat on foreign soil.

With the Ashes looming and key players struggling for form ahead of the first Test in Perth, Brook was unable to explain why New Zealand’s talent-laden batting line-up has not performed well.

“It’s a tough question to answer because we have some of the best players in the world and we haven’t performed as well as we could have,” Brook said. “New Zealand just beat us.”

“It’s quite clear that we didn’t get enough runs. (To get) 175 runs against the second best (ranked) team in the world on their own soil will never be enough.

“It’s disappointing to say the least. We want to go out there and entertain but that hasn’t happened the last few games. We have to dig deep again.”

England faltered at 5 for 3 and 10 for 4 in favorable fast bowling conditions at the Bay Oval on Sunday, but the seam and swing were not as impressive on the Seddon Park pitch in the second ODI.

But England’s best partnership was 38 runs between Overton and Sam Curran, as they lost wickets at regular intervals and, for the second time in a row, failed to play their overs by some margin.

One glimpse of light was how England came together when it came to bowling, and jofra archer Was a leading light especially after it first appeared this winter.

Archer, who entered with the intention of becoming a star in the Ashes starting from November 21, hit a four in his first over and could have played a strong innings in five balls with the new ball, taking one wicket out of eight.

When England were desperate for wickets, Archer was brought back in for the next five overs and he dismissed Rachin Ravindra And Michael Bracewell finished with figures of 10-4-23-3, where he averaged 87.4 mph.

“He’s amazing to look at,” Brook said. “To bowl 10 overs and take three wickets for 23 runs is huge. It’s always good to welcome him back to the team and the XI. He is an X-factor player.

“The way we bowled there, we gave them a big blow. We can learn a lot of things from that bowling innings, but as I said, not enough runs were scored.”

Ravindra made 54 and Daryl Mitchell made 56 not out, while Mitchell Santner made 34 not out in six off three balls to lead New Zealand to their first ODI series win over England since 2013.

On Archer, Ravindra said: “It’s a big challenge (to face him) with the amount of bounce and swing and nip. As a cricket fan, I’m excited to see how he performs in Australia.”
