If appointed, Harendra will replace Shopman. Shopman resigned last month after complaining about difficult working conditions for foreign coaches in India after the women’s team failed to qualify for the Paris Olympics.

Harendra has served in many capacities in the Indian hockey world in the past. In 2014, he was appointed as the head coach of the Indian youth team, and under his leadership, the team won the 2016 Men’s Youth World Cup in Lucknow.

Following success with the youth teams, he was appointed head coach of the senior women’s national team in September 2017. The team went on to win the gold medal at the 2017 Asian Cup.

In May 2018, Harendra succeeded Dutchman Sjölder Marini as the senior coach of the men’s team and took over the women’s team.

However, Harendra was booted out in January 2019 due to a series of poor performances from the men’s team.
