Hackers release ‘evidence package’ threatening group with trove of stolen NHS Dumfries and Galloway data

A ransomware group has released an “evidence package” threatening to steal massive amounts of data from Health Scotland in a cyberattack.

NHS Dumfries and Galloway Target from earlier this month and confirmed that the hackers were able to access “vast amounts of data,” including patient and staff identifying information.

Reports emerged on Wednesday that a group calling itself INC Ransom posted on its darknet blog that it had 3 terabytes of data from the NHS. Scotland.

The post included a “certification package” of data, including confidential information about a small number of patients, that had been confirmed by the health board to be true.

Jeff Ace, chief executive of NHS Dumfries and Galloway, said: “We strongly condemn the leakage of confidential patient data in this criminal act.

“The information was released by the hackers to prove that it was in their possession.”

The health board is continuing to work with Police Scotland, the National Cyber ​​Security Centre, the Scottish Government and other agencies to respond to the “evolving situation”.

Mr Ice added: “As part of our response, we will be contacting all patients whose data was currently breached and are continuing to work to limit the sharing of any such information.

“NHS Dumfries and Galloway is very keenly aware of the potential impact of this development on patients for whom data has been released, and the general anxiety it may cause among our patient community.”
