Shubman Gill’s brilliant half-century along with Rahul Tewatia and Rashid in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match in Jaipur on Wednesday Rashid Khan’s brilliant knock helped Gujarat Titans (GT) register a thrilling three-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals (RR). GT currently ranks sixth in the standings with 3 wins and 3 losses, with 6 points. RR suffered its first defeat after four wins and currently remains at the top of the table with eight points.

In a run chase of 197, Gujarat Titans openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan started cautiously and did not score many fours and sixes.

At the end of six rounds of powerplay, GT stood at 44/0 with Sai (21*) and Gill (23*) remaining unbeaten in the contest. In the final over of the powerplay bowled by Avesh Khan, GT scored 14 runs, including four and a six from Gill.

GT reached the 50-point mark in 6.5 rounds.

The 64-run partnership between Gill and Sai ended with pacer Kuldip Sen trapping him for 35 off 29 balls with three fours and a six. GT’s win rate in 8.2 rounds is 64/1.

At the halfway point of the innings, GT were 76/1, with Gill (36*) and Matthew Wade (4*) tied. The game was interrupted by rain.

After the rains, Rajasthan made a comeback in the match and Kuldeep continued his glory days. He defeated Matthew Wade (4) and Abhinav Manohar (1) in the 11th over to reduce GT to 79/3 in 10.4 overs.

Out-of-form all-rounder Vijay Shankar joined Gill in the middle to lead the team to the 100-run mark in 12.4 overs.

Gill reached his fifty off 35 balls with two fours and two sixes.

Just when the two seemed to have forged a partnership and started attacking, Yuzvendra Chahal cleared Shankar on 16 off 10 balls. GT’s winning percentage in 14 rounds is 111/4.

After Vijay was dismissed, Gill targeted RR’s spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Chahal for two fours each. However, he was stumped by Sanju Samson and Chahal had the last laugh. Gill hit 72 off 44 balls, including six fours and two sixes.

GT were 133/5 in 15.2 overs, requiring 64 off 28 balls.

Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Tewatia are two powerful batsmen and are the emerging combination. They scored 17 runs in the 17th over, with Tewatia scoring 4 runs and Shahrukh scoring 4 and 6 runs. The equation is reduced to 42 runs required in 18 balls.

However, their brief partnership ended with Shah Rukh being caught in front of the wicket by Avesh Khan for 14 runs. GT’s record was 157/6 in 17.3 overs. The 2022 champions ended Round 18 needing 35 points from two rounds.

Kuldeep’s penultimate over was costly as Rahul and Rashid hit him for three fours and he lost some extra runs due to wickets/no-balls. The equation is reduced to 15 in 6 balls.

Avish’s last ball started with a boundary from Rashid, followed by a double and then a four to reduce the deficit to three balls and five runs. On the penultimate ball, while trying his third over, Tewatiya made 22 off 11 balls, including three fours. Two runs are needed on the last ball. GT’s record was 195/7 in 19.5 overs.

Rashid hit a boundary off the last ball to win the match for his team by three wickets. He scored 24* off 11 balls with 4 boundaries.

Kuldip (3/41) and Chahal (2/43) were the bowlers for GT.

Earlier, Riyan Parag and Sanju Samson’s brilliant 130-run partnership helped Rajasthan Royals (RR) beat Gujarat Titans to 196/3 in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Wednesday Team.

Parag became RR’s top run-scorer with 76 runs in 48 deliveries, while captain Samson scored a crucial unbeaten 68 runs in 38 deliveries.

Batting first, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler started the game for RR. Jaiswal finally found his rhythm against the GT bowlers, hitting boundaries in every over to provide RR with a sensational start.

Umesh Yadav drew first blood after a dangerous opening from Jaiswal with a score of 24 in the 5th over of the match. Captain Sanju Samson then came to bat and opened his tally with back-to-back boundaries.

Shubman Gill introduced Rashid Khan in the powerplay and the Afghanistan player used his magic to defeat Jos Buttler for 8 runs. After Rajasthan suffered an early shock due to the wickets of Jaiswal and Buttler, Samson and Ryan Parag steadied RR’s ship with their stands.

After the top order failed, Parag and Samson once again came to RR’s rescue as the duo completed 50-plus runs in 39 deliveries.

Parag completed his highest half-century off 34 balls. Spencer Johnson was at the receiving end and Samson bowled him for 16 with the help of two boundaries and a maximum.
