Grey’s Anatomy Season 20: Jessica Capshaw returns briefly as Dr. Arizona

Grey’s Anatomy is one of the longest-running American television series, airing on ABC. Although the beloved medical drama ended its 19th season on May 18 last year, fans are already waiting with bated breath for the upcoming 20th season. Grey’s Anatomy has finally passed the filming phase following production delays caused by the Screen Actors Guild and Screen Actors Guild strikes in Hollywood. The 20th episode of the show will premiere on March 14. Amid much anticipation, ABC recently broke another interesting news. Jessica Capshaw, who exited the show in the Season 14 finale, will return for Season 20 as her character Dr. Arizona Robbins.

According to Variety, at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena on February 10, ABC announced that Jessica Capshaw will guest star in Season 20 of Grey’s Anatomy, but she will only Starring in one episode. However, ABC has not revealed which episode she will appear in.

In the Grey’s Anatomy Season 14 finale, Arizona Robbins, played by Jessica Capshaw, decided to leave her old life at Gray Sloan Memorial Hospital and move from Seattle to New York City. She is a fetal surgeon with a training in pediatrics and is interested in opening a female fetal surgery clinic. However, Robbins is more eager to reconcile with her partner Carly Torres (Sara Ramirez) and be with their daughter Sofia. Capshaw’s return has excited fans who are eager to learn more about her career and personal life in Season 20.

Jessica Capshaw joins Grey’s Anatomy Season 5. She was reportedly only supposed to appear for three seasons. With audiences recognizing her performance and storyline, the actress not only stayed on for the remainder of season five, but became a series regular in the next season as well. Earlier, Capshaw revealed in a statement that her character, Arizona Robbins, was one of the first lesbian characters to have a leading role on a television channel. “Her impact on the world is forever,” she was quoted as saying by Variety at the time.

During the press tour, ABC further revealed that Alex Landi will also reprise his role as orthopedic surgeon Nico Kim in the upcoming 20th installment, but only as a guest star. Randy left Grey’s Anatomy in Season 15. Newcomers Natalie Morales and Freddy Miares have been tapped to play key roles.
