Greater Noida police registered a case against unidentified persons after taking notice of a complaint from an NGO over a viral video on social media, which allegedly shows a young boy throwing a puppy from a high building on the road to this one-month-old dog. Officials said Sunday that he died.

A complaint filed by Surbhi Rawat, a volunteer with the People for the Protection of Animals (PFA), highlighted that the boy, aged around 9 to 10 years, lived in a high-rise tower and was allegedly captured on video criminal behavior.

The video, which has been circulating on social media platforms, purportedly depicts the boy mercilessly picking up the helpless puppy, which was hiding in the bushes with its siblings.

The FIR said the video was being circulated on social media platforms in the society, instigating others to do the same.

Video footage shows the boy, watched by an adult, mercilessly picking up the nearly one-month-old puppy, which was hiding in the bushes with other siblings. The FIR said the boy took the puppy onto the road, although the puppy kept screaming and tried to escape from his grasp, but failed.

The FIR said the puppy’s desperate cries did not stop the boy from throwing it down from a height, leading to its death.

Officials said the FIR required the child to appear before a juvenile court and have his mental state examined.

“In the same society, just a few days ago, a person deliberately crushed a puppy under a car. Another puppy was found dead in suspicious circumstances. It was probably poisoned. An autopsy will be performed. Such cruelty to a puppy The reason for the act was hatred on the association’s Whatsapp group. Children these days have mobile phones and are easily influenced by adults who spread fear and hatred against stray animals all day long,” Rawat told PTI .

PFA trustee Ambika Shukla said it was worrying to see a child without any emotion.

“It reveals a psychopathic tendency that must be urgently dealt with, lest we discover a monster in our midst. Those who harm and abuse animals set a dangerous example that can have tragic consequences. Let us not use our prejudices to To misrepresent an entire generation,” she said.

Recently, Federal House of Representatives member Saket Gokhale said on “X” that he introduced a private member’s bill seeking amendments to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and it received “unanimous support” from the House of Representatives.

“As per the existing law, the penalty for animal cruelty is only a small fine of Rs 500. My bill seeks to amend the law to make the punishment tougher for animal abusers to a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh and imprisonment for up to one month. years,” he said.

Gokhale said the bill was motivated by a responsibility to protect our animal friends who cannot speak for themselves.
