Google plans to relaunch Gemini AI image generation tool after fixing accuracy issues

Alphabet’s Google plans to relaunch its Gemini AI image generation tool in the coming weeks, after temporarily suspending it due to inaccurate historical descriptions generated by the tool.

The move comes as Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis announced plans to relaunch the Gemini AI image generation tool, which fixes a bug that led to its temporary suspension. Users apparently pointed out these inaccuracies on social media, prompting Google to take corrective action.

Recently, an AI tool’s analysis of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was criticized for being “woke” and “racist.” Google CEO Sundar Pichai also apologized for the “unreliable” artificial intelligence tools, admitting that the company “got it wrong.”

Meanwhile, AI companies are watching closely to see if Google sets a precedent. Lucas Bonatto, director of AI and machine learning at Semantix, a development company specializing in big data and artificial intelligence, said: “The different types of bias that exist in machine learning models are critical to AI applications, especially those that operate at scale. , is a serious problem… In this case, apart from discomfort and the generation of memes on social networks, prejudice does not seem to cause significant problems.”

Google initially offered image generation capabilities through its Gemini AI model earlier this month, but some users highlighted that the historical images it generated were sometimes inaccurate. This led to Google representatives describing the generative AI tool as “not working the way we expected.”

The tool’s inaccuracies and subsequent suspension of its use highlight the challenges tech giants face in developing innovative and accurate artificial intelligence software.

Google’s future strategy

The relaunch of the Gemini AI image generation tool is part of Google’s broader efforts to compete with industry rivals, especially OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Since the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, Google has been racing to develop artificial intelligence technology that can match or surpass its competitors. Google has had both successes and challenges in this race, including the release of its generative AI chatbot Bard (later renamed Gemini). Google has also launched a paid subscription plan for users looking for enhanced reasoning capabilities with its AI models.

Google’s AI development journey has been under close scrutiny, especially as the company aims to address and correct issues that led to the temporary suspension of its Gemini AI imaging tool. The planned relaunch signals Google’s commitment to improving its artificial intelligence products and maintaining a competitive edge in the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence.
