Google expands Gemini AI capabilities to Oppo, OnePlus devices

By | Published | No Comments

Oppo and OnePlus have joined forces with Google to leverage the power of its artificial intelligence (AI) model Gemini in their devices. Under the partnership, the Chinese smartphone brand will introduce new artificial intelligence features with the Gemini 1.0 Ultra model. It is worth noting that OPPO already has its own native large language model AndesGPT, and has released multiple artificial intelligence functions in Chinese devices through this model. Recently, the brand announced that the Reno 11 series will receive AI eraser functionality globally.

The news was announced during the tech giant’s annual Google Cloud Next event, with OPPO and OnePlus general manager of artificial intelligence products Nicole Zhang saying: “Generative AI is a transformative technology and I believe OPPO and OnePlus are well-positioned Bringing benefits to users around the world. Through our collaboration with Google to integrate Gemini and Google Cloud AI into smartphones, and partnerships with other industry leaders to deliver diverse AI experiences, we are excited to significantly Expand the field of mobile AI innovation.”

Zhang also said that both smartphone brands plan to launch more than 100 AI-generated content experiences for their users. An AI-generated content experience could mean AI-based features that integrate content in one way or another. Some examples of these features can be call summary generator and AI image generator. Notably, OPPO has already brought these two features to China.

It seems that the partnership with Google will be targeted at Oppo and OnePlus users outside of China. While the details of the collaboration are unclear, it could pave the way for the two companies to bring Google-specific AI features to smartphones, such as portrait lights and lock screen song recognition. Some of the features being developed include summarizing news articles, summarizing audio and generating new social media content, the brands said in a statement.

Interestingly, the move coincides with Oppo’s recent announcement of bringing the AI eraser feature to its Reno 11 series of smartphones globally. AI Eraser is a photo editing tool that can be found in the built-in Gallery app. Once the user circles any object in the background, the AI processes and removes it while restoring the background elements.
