Samsung has partnered with Google to launch the Circle to Search feature on the Galaxy S24 series. The feature is now available on several flagship devices, but users have expressed some concerns about the feature. In the “Made by Google” podcast, it was highlighted that users have been sending feedback about innovative features being accidentally triggered even when not in use. As a result, Google will soon roll out an improved version of its Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based Circle to Search feature. It is reported that the company is currently working on improving this feature.

What is Google’s “Search Circles” feature?

The Circle to Search feature is a new feature announced in 2023 that allows users to conduct Google searches by circling, highlighting, or clicking on objects displayed on the screen. This feature reduces the hassle of switching between different apps to find jeans you saw on social media, or if you just want to find the meaning of a word you read. However, it was reported that the “circle search” function was accidentally triggered by users.

How Google will prevent accidental triggering of Circle Search

In a recent Made by Google podcast, product manager Erin Lynch and director of product management Alistair Pott highlighted user concerns about the Circle Search feature. The pair mentioned that the feature was touch-sensitive and could be triggered by simply pressing and holding the navigation bar or home button, which created some major issues. “We still have a long way to go and we’re working hard to make sure it fires when you want it to. It doesn’t fire when you don’t want it to,” Lynch said. However, there’s no confirmation yet on when the new update will be rolled out.

Additionally, it was confirmed that Google Lens integration with the Circle to Search feature is coming soon. In the podcast, the two said: “We’re bringing Lens and search more together. I’m really excited about us actually merging the search results page with the Lens results page. That’s going to be rolled out over many, many months.” The integration will enable users to perform visual searches and get improved results.
