A gold pocket watch belonging to John Jacob Astor IV, the richest man aboard the Titanic, sold for $1.5 million at a memorabilia auction Saturday. cnn informed of.

The 14 karat gold Waltham pocket watch, marked with his initials “JJA”, was one of the few notable items offered at Henry Aldridge & Son in Wiltshire, England.

Other items include the famous Wellis which contained the iconic violin played by the band leader when the ship sank, and a pocketbook documenting the Titanic’s scheduled voyages.

Gold cufflinks, a diamond ring, money and a watch, along with a pocketbook, were found on his body when it was recovered a week later.

The items were later passed on to Astor’s son, Vincent Astor, who completely restored the clock.
