Glenn Maxwell withdraws from IPL 2024 indefinitely, explains decision to RCB | Cricket News

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell have decided to suspend the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 campaign indefinitely. Maxwell revealed the news while addressing the media at a press conference after RCB’s humiliating defeat at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday night. Maxwell was not included in the XI against SRH due to poor performance with the bat and Will Jacks took his place. After the game, Maxwell explained that he asked captain Faf du Plessis to try the others himself.

At a press conference, Maxwell said he was not in good “mental and physical condition” at the moment. So, I decided to take a break. The Australian all-rounder did not specify how long he has decided to stay out.

“For me personally, it was a pretty easy decision,” Maxwell said after RCB’s sixth defeat in seven matches. “I went to Fife [du Plessis] After the last game, the coaches said I think it might be time for us to try someone else. I’ve been in situations like this in the past where you can keep playing and get yourself into deeper trouble. I think now is actually a good time to give yourself a mental and physical break and get in shape. If I need to compete during a tournament, I want to be able to get back to a really solid mental and physical space where I can still make an impact.

“We had a pretty big flaw after the power play, which has been my strength the past few seasons. I felt like I wasn’t contributing in a positive way with the bat, the results and the position we found ourselves at the table, I think now is a good time to give other people a chance to showcase their products and hopefully someone can make this spot their own.”

This isn’t the first time Maxwell has paused a game due to mental fatigue. Since things were not going well for the veteran cricketer, he decided that it would be best for the team to use other options while he rejuvenates and hopes to bounce back with strength.

“T20 cricket is like that sometimes – it’s a very fickle game,” he said. “Even if you look at the first game, I hit a ball from the middle of the bat to the wicketkeeper. I had good control of the length of the bat and saw the scoring opportunity, but it opened up a little too much. When you’re going When you go, okay, it’s beyond the glove, you get a boundary, you’re 4 for 1, you’re going to leave the game.

“I probably just haven’t escaped yet – it’s as simple as that. In the first few games I felt I made pretty good decisions but I’m still looking for a way out. That can happen in T20 cricket When it snowballs like this in a game, you can over-search and try and forget the basics of the game.”

Earlier, Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar had also criticized Maxwell’s poor performance in the IPL, saying the Australian was simply incapable of bowling fast.

“He has been unable to bowl fast, that’s all,” former India captain Sunil Gavaskar told Star Sports.

“He was troubled by balls that bounced up to his chest or shoulder level. He could hit all balls below waist height, but not above.”
