An infant has died after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs in Delhi, rekindling the debate over stray dogs. One-and-a-half-year-old Divyanshi suffered serious injuries on her legs and face after she was attacked by at least three stray dogs in Tughlakabad area.
Her family members heard her screams and chased away the dogs. He was taken to the hospital, but doctors declared him dead. The body has been sent for post-mortem and the police are investigating the matter.
Attacks by stray dogs on pedestrians, especially children, have triggered demands for immediate action from civic authorities. In some areas, animal lovers who feed stray animals have also come under attack for such incidents.
In some areas, anger over the alleged inaction of civic authorities in controlling stray dogs has led to shocking incidents of violence.
Earlier this month, 20 stray dogs were shot dead in Telangana’s Mahabubnagar district. Police have registered a case and started investigation to arrest those involved in the brutal murder.
In another incident of cruelty to animals, five pets, including six dogs, were poisoned in Thane.
Apart from stray dogs, pets are also becoming the subject of aggressive conflicts in residential neighbourhoods. In the National Capital Region, pet owners often clash with neighbors over whether dogs should be allowed in lifts or not. Viral videos showing dogs attacking people in lifts have also drawn strong reactions.
