Gillian Anderson recalls suffering ‘pregnancy guilt’ while filming ‘The X-Files’

Gillian Anderson was worried she would be fired from The X-Files if she didn’t return to filming ten days after giving birth.

In a conversation with “Today” anchor Savannah Guthrie, the 55-year-old actress lamented putting work over her health after giving birth to daughter Piper, now 29, via C-section.

“I think if I hadn’t felt so guilty about being pregnant in season 1, I might have taken better care of myself and been more thoughtful about what I needed,” she shared. “And be more considerate of what I need in that moment for the best good.”

“But I guess I was too focused on ‘I almost got fired, I screwed up, I’m going to do what they say,’” Anderson continued.

“Yeah, 10 days after a C-section. But we’re still talking about it, right? It’s so funny. Because, whatever that was, it was 30 years ago.”

The Crown alum expressed similar sentiments in an interview with Grazia magazine last month, noting that she had no idea “what the hell I was doing” after the birth of her first child.

“Your moods get turned upside down and sometimes you feel like you’re a little angry,” she admits.

Anderson welcomed Piper in 1994 with her then-husband, Clyde Klotz.

The actress also has two sons, Felix, 17, and Oscar, 15, with ex-boyfriend Mark Griffths.
