People We are being urged to be wary of any texts and calls claiming to have a Warm Home discount this Christmas.
Fraudsters may ask people for their bank details in a bid to offer them a £150 discount on their energy bills.
The Department of Energy Security and Net Zero said bill payers can avoid scams by avoiding clicking on any links or providing any financial information.
It says they should instead look for an official letter confirming their eligibility for the warm home exemption.
The department said that for most recipients, £150 will be automatically deducted from their energy bill.
Some families may need to provide additional information to ensure they receive the exemption, and will receive a letter advising them to call the helpline provided.
Energy Consumer Minister Martin McCluskey said: “We know how difficult the festive season can be for people struggling with their bills.
“Around six million households will benefit from a £150 discount on their energy bills this winter and, for many, help is just around the corner.
“But fraudsters are also well aware of the pressures they place on families. Don’t let scammers steal Christmas, and make sure you know how to spot Warm Home discount scams.
