Severe flooding caused by seasonal rains in Afghanistan has killed at least 33 people and injured 27 over three days, a Taliban spokesman said on Sunday.

Flash floods hit the capital Kabul and several provinces, Abdullah Janan Saik, spokesman for the Taliban’s National Ministry of Natural Disaster Management, said on Sunday.

He added that more than 600 houses were damaged or destroyed and about 200 livestock died.

Flooding also damaged about 800 hectares of farmland and more than 85 kilometers (53 miles) of roads, Saiq said.

He added that Sifala, Herat, southern Zabul and Kandahar were the worst-hit provinces.

The meteorological department predicts more rainfall in most of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces in the coming days.
