A former spokesperson of the England Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 2.55 pm that a tree had fallen in Chalkwell Park in Chackwell. Six ambulances, three ambulance officers vehicles, London Air Ambulance and Kent Air Ambulance were sent to the spot.
“Two children were taken on the road to Southend University Hospital. One and three children were later taken to the same hospital with minor injuries.”
In the footage, an enlarged police appearance and an air ambulance appeared on the ground around the perimeter of the park.
Adam Hutchins, 47, told Essexalive: “I heard the children playing on the tree. They heard a big rift. It should be very loud. They went running and had children under the tree.
“All cricket people ran away and tried to lift the tree. I think it is one of the oldest trees. Metal stood in it.”
Labor MP for Southend West and Leh, David Burton-Sampson said: “I am hearing about a worrying incident in Chackwell Park and I am waiting for more information. Meanwhile, meanwhile, please avoid speculation until the full details are released.
“My thoughts are with the affected people.”
The leader of the Southend-on-C City Council Daniel Cowan said: “I am aware of this very serious incident. We are working with Essex Police, Ambulance Service and Fire Service, who are still on the spot.
“I think a tree has fallen, there have been many casualties and we are just asking the public to escape from that area, while those services have done their work, and my thoughts are with those affected.”
Chalkwell Park is an entertaining ground consisting of 27 hectares and several flower gardens, two children’s playgrounds, a skate park and football, cricket, basketball and tennis grounds.
