‘Feeling weaker and smaller’ helps actress Amy Winehouse play singer

Actress Marissa Abela consulted a nutritionist to help her safely play Amy Winehouse in the upcoming biopic about her.

The actress, whose mother is Jewish, said: “The more I got to know her, the more I felt a huge connection to this snarky Jewish girl from London who had a lot to say and was really Fearless.”

“I remember how I felt when I was younger, seeing that proud and calm woman wearing a Star of David between her cleavage and a nice bra.

“I knew what Friday night dinner would be like at her house and I knew the humor in her house.”

“I love her passion, how huge her soul is, how she permeates any room she’s in.

“But also, her relationship with her art form and wanting to be good. That’s the most important thing.”

“My job is to put myself in Amy’s shoes.”

The biopic is directed by Fifty Shades of Gray filmmaker Sam Taylor-Johnson, whose husband Aaron was reportedly recently the next james bond.

It follows Winehouse’s journey to fame, with the villains being “junkies” and “ruthless paparazzi.”

“As an actor, I think you make a terrible mistake when you judge a character and a character’s decisions,” Abella said.

“Of course – these are not just characters, they are real people.

“My job was to understand Amy’s situation and her soul and understand why she did the things she did.

“The only villains in our story are drug addiction and the ruthless paparazzi. I’m not going to tell people how to feel about it.”
