Bengaluru, Oct 29 (IANS) In a major development, a court hearing the sensational fan murder case has decided to frame charges against jailed Kannada superstar Darshan, his partner Pavitra Gowda and others on October 31.
The trial court passed the order after considering the prosecution’s contention that Darshan’s lawyers were trying to delay the process of framing charges.
Further, the court directed both the parties to cooperate to ensure speedy examination of witnesses in the case.
Once charges are framed, the court will begin the hearing and examine witnesses. After this process is completed, the court will give its decision.
Meanwhile, hearing Darshan’s plea seeking additional facilities inside the Bengaluru Central Jail, the court refused to provide him extra bed and pillow. However, it directed the jail authorities to provide him blankets and clothes once a month. The court left the decision to transfer Darshan to another barrack within the jail to the discretion of the jail authorities.
The court also rejected the plea of accused number five Nandish, who had sought removal of his name from the case.
Darshan, Pavitra Gowda and other accused appeared in the court through video conferencing. Darshan was seen wearing kumkum on his forehead and standing with folded hands along with other accused.
Darshan, Pavitra Gowda and 15 others were arrested on June 11, 2024 for the kidnapping and brutal murder of Renukaswamy, a fan from Chitradurga. Renukaswamy allegedly sent derogatory and obscene messages to Pavitra Gowda, angering Darshan who continued to have an affair with her despite being married.
Darshan was shifted to Ballari jail after pictures of his alleged “royal behaviour” surfaced in Bengaluru Central Jail. At present there are three FIRs against him related to the case. The police filed a 3,991-page chargesheet along with an additional chargesheet in the court on September 4, 2024.
Darshan was released from jail on October 30, 2024, after spending 131 days in custody. Darshan, his associate Pavitra Gowda and others were arrested again after the Supreme Court canceled their bail following an appeal by Karnataka Police.
It may be recalled that Pavitra Gowda is known to be a long time companion of Darshan. Sources close to Darshan revealed that Pavitra Gowda competed with Darshan’s wife Vijayalakshmi over jewelery and luxury cars. She had reportedly pressured Darshan to make a public appearance with her as she was seen with his wife.
Pavitra Gowda and Vijayalakshmi also had a public spat through social media posts, due to which Darshan’s fans took sides and attacked a woman.
According to police findings, Renukaswamy, who supported Vijayalakshmi, criticized Pavithra Gowda and sent her obscene messages and photographs, which ultimately led to her brutal death.
