Popular social media platform Facebook is revamping the video player on its mobile app. With this upgrade, users will no longer have to see different full-screen modes and viewing experiences for different types of videos. Currently, users can watch Reels, long videos, and live videos on the app. While the scrolls open in vertical full screen, longer videos and live videos open in half screen view with comments at the bottom. Facebook is currently addressing this inconsistency by upgrading its video player.

The announcement was passed on Wednesday postal Meta Newsroom said: “We’ve launched an updated video player on Facebook that combines Reels, longer videos and live content into a full-screen, engaging experience. The updated video player will be available first. Launching on iOS and Android in the U.S. and Canada, with global rollout coming in the coming months.” It will arrive in other regions in the coming months.

Essentially, Facebook is providing a single consistent full screen for all kinds of videos. Once the update rolls out, users will be able to open all videos in vertical full-screen mode. The company appears to be using Instagram’s Reels as a template for its video player. On the vertical screen, users can choose to like, comment, share and send it to contacts on Messenger on the right, with the uploader’s name at the bottom, followed by the video’s description.

Longer videos that may not align vertically can be viewed in landscape mode. Facebook said that when opening most landscape videos in full screen, a rotation direction icon will be displayed, which allows users to enter landscape mode. Additionally, the social media giant is offering better controls for browsing videos.

Users will see an option to pause the video and skip forward or backward ten seconds via a centrally placed icon. Users can also get finer control by moving the bottom slider to jump to specific parts of the video. Furthermore, the post also mentioned that in addition to these upgrades, improvements are also being made to the recommendation system. Recommendations will be based on user interests. “We might recommend a Reel to provide you with inspiration for a quick daily makeup routine, or a longer tutorial video on DIY home improvements for experienced homeowners,” the post added.
