Explosion and fire in Paris apartment building kills three

At least three people were killed when an eight-story building exploded and caught fire on Sunday, French daily Le Parisien reported.

However, the cause of the explosion remains unclear.

According to Le Parisien, an explosion was heard before the fire broke out in the building in the 11th arrondissement of Paris.

The fire broke out on the seventh floor of the building.

After the incident, multiple ambulances and fire engines rushed to the scene.

“Neighbors do not understand what caused the explosion because there was no gas in the building,” Luc Lebon, deputy mayor of the 11th arrondissement, was quoted by Le Parisien as saying.

At the same time, authorities have not ruled out traces of natural gas.

Speaking on the issue, a prosecutor told Le Parisien that an investigation into the incident had been launched and officers from the capital’s 2nd Judicial Police District had been assigned to investigate the causes of the explosion and fire.
