Brussels:
EU antitrust regulators launched their first investigation under the Digital Markets Act on Monday into Apple, Alphabet Inc’s Google and Meta Platforms for possible breaches of landmark EU tech rules.
“The (European) Commission suspects that the measures taken by these gatekeepers do not effectively fulfill their obligations under the DMA,” the EU executive said in a statement.
The EU competition enforcer will investigate Alphabet’s diversion rules in Google Play and self-preference in Google Search, Apple’s diversion rules in the App Store, and Safari and Meta’s “pay or consent mode” selection screens.
The Commission also initiated investigative steps into Apple’s new fee structure for its alternative App Store and Amazon’s ranking practices on its marketplace.
