‘Embarrassing’: Wasim Akram fuming at low turnout for PSL 2024 playoffs in Karachi

The ninth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is coming to an end with two matches remaining, including the summit clash. Mohammad Rizwan-led Multan Sultans have qualified for Monday’s final after beating Babar Azam’s Peshawar Zalmi in the qualifiers Get a seat. However, fans are concerned about the subdued atmosphere at the PSL playoffs in Karachi. Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators met in a knockout round 1 match in front of an almost empty National Cricket Stadium on Friday.

While the races in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Multan were almost packed, the Karachi leg had almost no spectators.

In fact, with the arrival of Ramzan, the oppressive atmosphere in Kalchi became even more pronounced. According to ESPNcricinfo, PSL officials have decided not to reschedule the remaining matches.

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram said he was “embarrassed” to see the playoffs in Karachi without fans.

“It was really embarrassing to see no spectators in Karachi. No spectators, there was really no spectators for last night’s game,” Akram told A Sports.

Here’s how the internet reacted:

For those unfamiliar, this will be the first time the PSL final will be held on a Monday. The previous eight editions of the competition have all concluded on the weekend.
