Billionaire Elon Musk took to social media to express his concerns about the economic impact of illegal immigration and criticized the ongoing debate over the way Joe Biden’s administration has handled the so-called border crisis.

“Something else you may not know: In the United States, illegal immigrants can get bank loans, mortgages, insurance, driver’s licenses, free health care (California and New York), and in-state college tuition. If illegals get all the benefits, But not paying taxes or doing jury duty?” he wrote.

Fox News reported that the U.S. housing market is facing challenges as the Federal Reserve combats inflation, home prices hit a record high in November, and mortgage rates are close to two-decade highs. Homebuyers are struggling, and the financial burden on renters has also surged, the report added.

The Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University revealed that by 2022, an unprecedented 22.4 million renters in the United States will be considered “cost burdened” due to their monthly housing payments. Tenants are classified as “overburdened” if they spend more than 30% of their income on rent and utilities, a staggering number that accounts for roughly half of all renters in the United States.

Musk was born and raised in South Africa, moved to Canada when he was 18, and later became a U.S. citizen. “I’m not anti-immigration; I’m just opposed to the large influx of unvetted people into the United States, which is what any reasonable person should do,” he said.

The Tesla CEO’s mother, 75-year-old Maye Musk, highlighted her difficult journey to obtain U.S. citizenship in a separate post, even claiming it took her 12 years to become a U.S. citizen citizen.

“Even though my father and grandmother were born in Minnesota and my grandfather, John Elon Haldeman, was born in Illinois, I was unable to obtain U.S. citizenship. I was born in Canada, so it took me 12 years It took a visa, a green card, a lawyer, and countless medical tests. That’s how hard it was,” her post read.

In response, Musk wrote: “Yes, it was very difficult and it took me over ten years to obtain U.S. citizenship.”

U.S. senators on Sunday unveiled a $20.2 billion border security and immigration policy reform bill that was agreed to by Democratic and Republican negotiators. The new law will give President Joe Biden the power to turn away asylum seekers if the number of illegal border crossings exceeds 5,000 per week, AFP reported.
