Elon Musk has reposted a tweet reaffirming his Mars plans. The post on the social media platform X (earlier Twitter) has an image of a rocket and an older quote from the world’s richest man about his goals to colonise Earth’s neighbouring planet from 2024.
The post’s caption reads: “I’m going to colonize Mars. My mission in life is to make mankind a multi-planetary civilization. — Elon Musk”
Musk also recently shared his enthusiasm about sending astronauts to Mars for investigation.
Elon Musk wants to investigate square-shaped structures on Mars
Recently, an image captured by NASA’s decomissioned Mars Global Surveyor’s Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) was discovered which showed a perfectly square-shaped structure, nearly 3 kilometers (1.8 miles) wide on the planet. This geometric anomaly has sparked widespread speculation, with theories ranging from natural geological formations to potential extraterrestrial origins. Musk took to social media to urge for a direct investigation into the formation which has further fueled discussions about the structure’s significance.
Replying to podcaster Joe Rogan’s post that showed the square structure on Mars, Musk wrote: “We should send astronauts to Mars to investigate!”
The square formation is situated in a rocky region on Mars where erosion, tectonic activity and other geological forces continuously shape the landscape. However, what makes this discovery especially intriguing is its nearly perfect angular geometry—an uncommon characteristic in naturally occurring rock formations.
While some scientists believe the structure could be a result of natural planetary processes, its striking precision has led many to consider more mysterious possibilities. The discovery has reignited debates on extraterrestrial life and reinforced calls for increased exploration of the Red Planet, with some even speculating about ancient civilisations or unknown forces at play.
As the founder of SpaceX, Musk has dedicated the past two decades to advancing space exploration. His company has been successful with reusable rocket technology, developed the Starship spacecraft for deep-space missions, and aims to land humans on Mars within the next decade. This further solidifies his colonisation plans.
