Police have named an elderly couple who died in a horror car crash during an afternoon outing in Barnsley.

Peter, 75, and Margaret Deeley, 85, died after their car was involved in a multi-car collision.

Seven other people were treated in hospital following the crash. Their injuries are considered serious but not life-threatening.

A 65-year-old man arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death has been released on police bail.

Paramedics attended the Barugh Green intersection at 2pm on Saturday, March 23, following reports of a road traffic collision.

Detectives believe a white Suzuki collided with a gray Range Rover and other vehicles.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the couple were pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said the couple’s family asked that their privacy be respected while they mourn their loss.

Police are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage of the vehicles involved.
