RIYADH: Saudi Arabia on Saturday asked its citizens to view the Showar moon on the evening of Monday, April 8.

In a statement, the Saudi Supreme Court called on residents to report incidents of moon sightings and notify relevant authorities.

According to Sharia law, sightings can be made with the naked eye or using binoculars, and the discovery must then be notified to the nearest court or center, arab news the report said.

Ramadan 2024 begins on March 11, and Muslims do not eat or drink from sunrise to sunset.

However, in Pakistan, the Meteorological Department predicts that the first day of Eid-ul-Fitr will be April 10 as the Chauwar moon is expected to be seen on April 9.

The PMD said that the new moon will be born at 11:21 pm on April 8 and mature between 19 and 20 hours before and after the Fajr prayers the next day.

At sunset, the crescent moon can be observed for more than 50 minutes, the report added.
