ED raids Kolkata in Bengal school job scam

Last updated: January 18, 2024, 11:56 IST

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday launched simultaneous raids at seven locations in and around Kolkata in connection with its investigation into alleged irregularities in recruitment in schools in West Bengal, a senior official said.

He said raids were being conducted at the residences and offices of people allegedly “acting as middlemen” in the scam.

“These middlemen used to collect money and transfer it to different addresses. We are raiding the residences and offices used by them,” the ED officer told PTI.

Along with a large number of central forces, ED officials launched search operations in New Town and Nayabad on the eastern fringes of Kolkata, he said.

Family members of the alleged middlemen are being interrogated, he said, adding that ED officials have not yet been able to enter one of the middleman’s offices as it is closed.
