ED’s Chennai office has asked Srikanth to appear before the agency on Monday, October 27. Kumar is scheduled to appear for questioning in the case on Tuesday, October 28.
According to news agency PTI, officials said that the statements of both the actors will be recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The case stems from a First Information Report (FIR) lodged by the Chennai Police in June this year related to alleged cocaine smuggling.
Kumar and Srikanth, along with some other persons, were arrested by the police and later granted conditional bail by the Madras High Court in July.
According to PTI, T Prasad, a former AIADMK member, had allegedly supplied cocaine to Srikanth and others and was arrested.
According to news agency ANI, the actors were charged under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, for purchasing cocaine for personal consumption.
Reportedly, no quantity of banned substance was recovered from both of them.
ED wants to investigate the proceeds of crime in this case.
