An earthquake of 4.0 magnitude hit Gujarat’s Kutch district on Sunday evening, but there was no report of damage to property or life, officials said.

According to the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR), the epicenter of the earthquake was located near Bhachau in Kutch district.

The ISR, in its latest update, said the quake was recorded at 4:45 pm on Sunday, with its epicenter about 21 km north-northwest (NNW) of Bhachau.

Kutch Collector Amit Arora said, “As per preliminary information there is no damage to property or life.”

Kutch district is located in the “very high risk” seismic zone, and low intensity earthquakes occur regularly.

In 2001, a major earthquake shook Kutch district, affecting many towns and villages, killing about 13,800 people and injuring 1.67 lakh.
