A mild earthquake of 2.9 magnitude occurred near Bhaskarnagar in Bidar district in the early hours of Sunday. The tremors were felt up to 40 km away, but officials have not confirmed any damage or casualties.
The earthquake occurred at 3.42 am, with its epicenter located 2.4 km northwest of Bhaskarnagar village in Chattaguppa taluk at a depth of 5 km.
KSNDMC said the seismic intensity was low and tremors would have been felt within a radius of 30 to 40 km. The earthquake occurred in Seismic Zone-2, where the possibility of damage is minimal.
“There is no damage and there is no need for residents to panic as the shock was of low intensity and non-destructive,” the KSNDMC statement said.
Villagers in Bhaskarnagar and surrounding areas reported mild tremors, but no damage.
