Health and Medical Education Minister, Social Welfare and Education Minister Sekena Itu today emphasized that a constant and collective effort from community stakeholders, religious leaders, government officials, law enforcement agencies and citizens is important to combat the increasing threat of misuse of drugs in society.
The Minister made this comment while addressing a day seminar on Drug-Free Kashmir (a practical step towards drug-free society) at Government College of Education (GCOE), Ma Road here today.
In his main address, Sekena emphasized the immediate need for an integrated front against the consumption of drugs, emphasizing that every person in society has an important role in eliminating this danger.
Highlighting the rise of drug addiction to the youth, the minister said that the government alone cannot fight this social threat. He insisted on coordinated efforts from religious leaders, families, civil society groups and other agencies to counter this social evil.
“A drug-free Jammu and Kashmir require not only an hour, it is a requirement for the existence and welfare of our future generations”, maintained Sakeena.
The minister further said that the government is eagerly working towards fighting this threat to the society. He said that the drug de-addiction center has been set up at the district headquarters so that necessary assistance can be provided to the people affected by drug addiction.
Appreciating the organizers and the college for organizing the seminar in this burning social issue, the minister claimed that the seminar should chase some actionable strategies required to free Kashmir from drug abuse, a challenge that endangers our social and cultural clothes.
During the incident, cultural demonstrations were shown to paint the effects of drug abuse on families as well as the overall society.
The program saw huge participation of teachers, young leaders, students, healthcare professionals, law enforcement officers as well as representatives of civil society.
Among others, Joint Director Information Kashmir, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari; Nodal Principal Kashmir Division College, Prof. Seema Naz; Principal Government Women’s College Srinagar, Principal GCOE Srinagar and other senior officials of the district administration were present on the occasion.
