A student has described the moment that was in a double-dekar bus, crashed in a river, in which five people were seriously injured.

The bus was taking 19 students to Barton Pouril Sixth Form College when he came out of Bishopastok Road and ended in the Itchen River at around 10 am on Thursday.

A witness said that the driver told them that the bus had faced mechanical failure and the break has stopped working.

One of the students on the board, called Freddy Sampson, explained the moment of the accident, and later panicked.

“We ran into a lamp-post and the whole windscreen shattered,” Freddy Sampson told the BBC.

“It was as if we could not stop and were trying not to hit any car through traffic and then the bus driver lost control – we flew into the river.

“It was all a little frantic. Nobody really knew what was going on. I looked in front to see people out of the way, as the cars out of the front … I looked round … They were all confused and scared.”

In a video of the incident, a student in the bus can be heard saying: “Oh God, we are going to die, we are really going to die” can be heard before shouting and the footage ends.

Kelly West, who lives nearby and reached the spot, said the driver had told her that the brake had failed and the accelerator was jammed.

“I heard some noise, looked out of the window and he was just taking care of in the river,” he said.

Ms. West said that people were screaming and found that the driver was trapped.

He said: “I told him to stop panic, help was on his way, and he said that the brake failed and the accelerator was jammed and he was trying to escape the cars.”

Inspector Andy Examiner, Ka Hampshire ConstableSaid that five people were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Two of them were injuries to two-driver and a passenger-to injuries, but there were no threat to life, while 14 others were treated at the scene, with less serious injuries, he said. A total of 19 people were hurt.

“It must have been terrible, and my views are very much with children and driver who should have a terrible experience,” he said.

The MR examiner praised the bravery of passers -by and the bravery of emergency services in freeing the trapped people.

The mother of a student said that she was nervous to hear about the accident but praised the driver’s actions.

Gabrila McIne’s Perez Cabarera wrote on Facebook: “My son has arrived from college. A friend of her faced a minor injury and went into the classroom after the accident.

“My son showed me a video taken by a student when the bus could not stop. They were very scared, poor people.

“I think the bus driver performed his best and pulled it into the river instead of going ahead because they were entering a more populated area.”

Another mother said that she got nervous and panicked after hearing the news.

“I reached as soon as possible as soon as possible, but I could not go to my daughter. I am nervous until I meet him to see,” the woman only recognized as anabel, told the BBC.
