A puppy Used to be saved from a Mighty Tear out current beyond San Diego An extraordinary turn of events occurred after he was washed out to sea.
Sadie, a black Labrador retriever-mix, strayed from her owners’ temporary housing last month while they were watching a football game. His owners were able to track his movements down the coast using an AirTag attached to his collar. Surfers at Ocean Beach raised the alarm with lifeguards after seeing a dog swept away in the strong current near the jetty.
A search operation involving a US Coast Guard boat and local lifeguards was launched. life saver Garrett Smerdon and Jack Alldredge surveyed the area for more than an hour on personal watercraft after Sadie disappeared into the channel. They were reportedly told that they had only ten minutes left to continue the search.
“At that point, I just said, ‘Please let us find this dog,'” Alldredge said.
Smerdon said, knowing that Labs are water dogs and fighters, there is a good chance that Sadie is still alive. They were called out, but while they were still a distance away, Alldredge thought he saw something.
“We got closer and closer and then we realized it was the one and we were so excited,” he said.
They ran towards Sadie.
“She was obviously very happy to see us,” Simardon said. “She was tired.”
Officials said Sadie, who was about half a mile (0.8 kilometers) away near South Mission Beach when she was found, was transferred to a surf boat, which brought her to shore, where she was reunited with her owners.
In a video message, Sadie’s owners, Alexis Barcellos and Brandon Valdez, said they will be forever grateful.
Barcelos recalled in the video that as the search was being called off, he heard a call on the radio that they had found the dog.
“And we just held our breath, and they were like, and the dog is alive,” she said. “And we immediately started crying.”
Barcellos said Thursday that Sadie’s claws and nails were badly damaged from trying to climb the pier, so Barcellos and Valdez had to transport her around for about a week. But she’s in great spirits and this week Sadie made her first trip to the pet store since her rescue to pick up gifts and took her first 1.5 mile (2.4 kilometer) walk.
“We are extremely grateful that he is safe at home with us,” he said.
