Doctor Who loses father, grandfather to Maoist violence 2024 poll

In Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district, a young tribal doctor named Prakash Kumar Gota, who lost three family members to Maoist violence, has decided to contest the upcoming elections as an independent candidate election.

Prakash is a doctor who entered politics to address the “oppression” Bastar suffered due to violence and lack of justice. He is contesting from Bastar Lok Sabha seat as an independent candidate.

“My name is Prakash Kumar Gota and I am an independent candidate from constituency no. 10 of Bastar district. I am a resident of Gram Panchayat, Bijapur, Chhattisgarh. I have Completed my medical studies. I have entered the electoral arena in “Arnie.

“My brother was kidnapped by Maoists and attempts were made to kill him. I asked the government to investigate but it was not carried out. My father was murdered by Maoists and the same fate happened to my grandfather. That is why I stand Here, as a victim of circumstance. My brother is currently in a coma,” he said.

He believed that dialogue was the only solution to the Maoist problem in the region.

“This (Maoist issue) can only be solved through dialogue; otherwise, the gunfire will not stop,” he said.

The elections to 11 Assembly constituencies in Chhattisgarh will be held in three phases on April 19, 26 and May 7. The counting of votes will be completed on June 4.

The Bharatiya Janata Party, which has a stronghold in Chhattisgarh, won 9 Lok Sabha seats in 2019, while the Indian National Congress won only 2 seats. In the 2014 elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 10 seats while the Indian National Congress won only 1 seat.
