Patna, October 30 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, accusing them of making false promises. He also said that development of Bihar is the top priority of the NDA government and the government is working to include Chhath Mahaparva in the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Addressing a massive election rally in Muzaffarpur on Thursday, the Prime Minister said that development of Bihar is the top priority of the NDA government.

He said, “When India was prosperous and a global power in knowledge and science, Bihar played an important role. Bihar’s development is essential to build a developed India. But RJD and Congress, which ruled for years, only betrayed the people.”

Criticizing the opposition, PM Modi said that RJD and Congress are identified by five things – guns, cruelty, bitterness, misgovernance and corruption.

He said, “Those who kept Bihar in the lantern era cannot provide electricity. Those who looted the railways cannot improve connectivity. Those who have a history of land grabbing cannot bring industries. Where there is corruption, there can be no social justice.”

Calling it a “great festival of humanity”, PM Modi also announced that the government is working to include Chhath Mahaparva in the UNESCO World Heritage list.

He said, “Chhath festival is the pride of Bihar and the country. Its worship is a symbol of devotion, equality and social harmony.”

He also criticized the opposition group without naming Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.

He said that both the leaders have opened a shop of false promises before the elections.

Modi said, “In the election battle of Bihar, some young men (who consider themselves princes) have opened a shop of false promises. One is the prince of the most corrupt family of India, and the other is the prince of the most corrupt family of Bihar. Both are out on bail in billion-dollar scams.”

He accused the opposition leaders of repeatedly insulting him and the people of Bihar.

The Prime Minister said, “Yesterday, both of them abused Modi. People who are born in a privileged family will naturally abuse a hard-working man. They cannot digest their food without insulting Dalits and backward classes.”

Referring to the alleged comments made about Chhath festival, PM Modi said that RJD and Congress leaders have insulted Chhathi Maiya, the deeply revered goddess in Bihar.

Modi said, “For them the worship of Chhathi Maiya is a farce, a drama. Can the mothers of Bihar, India and my Nirjala fast tolerate such an insult? The women who stand in the rivers to offer Arghya to the Sun God – in the eyes of RJD and Congress, they are just acting.”

He said, “No one in Bihar will ever forget this insult to Chhathi Maiya.”

PM Modi urged voters to reject the politics of deception and support NDA for a prosperous and developed Bihar.

Comparing the state’s development and chaos during the RJD rule, he said Bihar has changed under the BJP-NDA rule.

The Prime Minister said that the people of Bihar have seen the difference between the days of ‘Jungle Raj’ and the era of good governance.

Modi said, “Bihar has seen good governance from the BJP-NDA. Today, railway engines are being manufactured in Bihar, large dairy plants are being set up, and makhana (fox nut) is being exported across the world. When we remember the days of Jungle Raj, we realize how dangerous the situation was.”

Recalling the infamous Golu kidnapping-cum-murder case of 2001 that shook Muzaffarpur during the RJD government, he said such incidents were symbolic of the fear that gripped Bihar in those years.

The Prime Minister said, “A young boy named Golu was kidnapped in broad daylight while going to school. The criminals demanded a huge ransom and when the ransom was not given, they killed the innocent child. Around 35 to 40 thousand kidnappings took place during the RJD rule. This was the truth of Jungle Raj.”

PM Modi accused RJD and Congress of returning to the same dangerous mentality.

He said, “You can’t trust their intentions. Just look at their audacity – their election campaign songs talk about bullets, pistols and double-barrelled guns. It shows their mentality.”

Highlighting women empowerment under the NDA, the Prime Minister said both his government and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s government have given priority to women’s welfare.

Modi said, “Whether it is Narendra Modi or Nitish Kumar, empowering women has always been our priority. We provided the poor with pucca houses in the name of women, tap water, free gas connections and free food grains to ease their difficulties.”

He also praised Bihar’s Mahila Self-Employment Scheme, under which Rs 10,000 each have been deposited in the accounts of 1.21 crore women.

The Prime Minister said, “With this money, women of Bihar are starting their own small enterprises. I assure you that we will not stop here.”

PM Modi’s comments came as part of the BJP’s intense campaign ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, as he urged voters to reject those who pushed Bihar into darkness and support the NDA for continued development and stability.
