The project ends decades of sporadic, event-based balloon flights in Delhi, which were last seen around Safdarjung Airport and India Gate in the 1980s and 1990s. Supported by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, the initiative followed a successful demonstration flight on November 25.
Weekend flights, river bank views
This facility will operate every Saturday and Sunday from 4 pm to 6 pm:
- 8-10 minute scheduled flights
- climb up to 120 feet
- Yamuna river bank view
- Capacity of 3-4 passengers per flight
With a promotional ₹2,000 + GST launch fare, tickets are set at ₹3,000 + GST. Operating costs are estimated at around ₹70,000 per flight hour.
Delhi joins the national circuit
Hot air ballooning is currently active in Jaipur, Pushkar, Agra, Goa, Maharashtra and parts of Karnataka. With Asita Park, Delhi will host its first consistent, regulated public ballooning service. Additional sites – including the Commonwealth Games Village and Yamuna Sports Complex – may be created depending on demand.
Security under military level surveillance
The DGCA-registered Ultramagic balloon from Spain will be operated by DGCA-licensed commercial pilots, supported by weather checks, briefings and an experienced ground crew. Former armed forces officers including Colonel (retd) Mukesh Yadav and Brigadier (retd) Vinod Bahri oversee the operations.
‘A milestone for Delhi’
CEO Manish Saini called the launch “a milestone for Delhi and India’s aero-adventure movement”, promising a safe, world-class aerial experience for urban audiences.
Asita Park is now poised to become the capital’s newest sky-gazing attraction – and Delhi’s gateway to recreational flying.
